Tākaka Catchment Collective

Working Together for the Future Health of the Tākaka Catchment

Over the past 18 months, Tasman Environmental Trust has hosted a series of community workshops to bring local people together to plan for the future health of the Tākaka Catchment and its people.

These workshops connected a wide range of locals, landowners, farmers, Manawhenua, community groups, and local agencies to share knowledge about the people, projects, and processes already active in the catchment. Together, participants explored how these efforts link up and how we can strengthen relationships to create a shared pathway for enhancement.

A large amount of information and research was gathered and reviewed to find common themes that could guide coordinated action. This was prepared to support community discussion on what is already working well, what could be improved, and where new opportunities exist.

The next stage focuses on working together to protect and restore the important places and taonga (treasures) of the Tākaka Catchment, now and for future generations. The collective enhancement strategy aims to align everyone’s efforts, fill gaps, and provide clear direction, practical tools, and opportunities for the community to take part in restoration and monitoring in an integrated way.
