Restoring East Mohua: Community Action for a Thriving Coastal Ecosystem
Imagine a coastal forest alive with birdsong, streams and wetlands nurturing native fish and bird species, and an ocean rich with marine life. This is the vision driving this dedicated community group known as Friends of East Mohua (FOEM).
What began as a grassroots effort—locals banding together to raise funds, plant native trees, clear weeds, build tracks, and trap pests—has grown into a dynamic community movement. Their goal? To restore the mauri, or life force, of the landscape from Motupipi all the way to Wainui Bay.
FOEM’s mahi is growing, and so is their impact. With big goals and plenty of heart, they’re inviting other community members to join them in caring for this special place.
If you’re passionate about protecting nature and want to be part of a hands-on community effort, Friends of East Mohua would love to welcome you.
