Winter Planting at Te Mamaku – Volunteers Needed!

Our winter planting is back in full swing — with 6,750 native trees to go in the ground mid to late July! 🌿

The contractors will begin planting right after the school holidays, and we’ll be following close behind to put on plant guards to protect the new seedlings from hungry hares and rabbits. We saw serious damage within days in May — so this mahi is critical.

Working Bee Details:
Tuesday 15 July – Friday 25 July, 9am–12noon daily (weather permitting)
EXCEPT Saturday 19 July — we’ll be at Baigent Reserve instead.
We’ll be placing plant guards straight after the trees are planted.

This is a big job, and we need all the help we can get!

Whether you’re new or a regular, one day or ten — every pair of hands counts. Bring a friend or a neighbour — it’s fun, social and deeply rewarding.

A huge thanks to:

  • Jean Malpas Estate – Environmental Trust
  • Titoki Nursery for donating 250 beautiful pōhutukawa trees
  • Woollife for gifting 250+ sheep wool weed mats to trial
  • The Lion Foundation for funding the cardboard plant guards and mats
