Banded Rail gets Helping Hands

The team at Craigs Investment Partners Nelson recently took a break from the office to help the Battle for the Banded Rail community conservation project. How cool is that!

The day was spent connecting with nature and each other, all the while doing some good for the environment. They rolled up their sleeves and got stuck into caring for native plantings, tackling weed maintenance, and even keeping pests at bay.

Why did they choose this particular project? Well, it turns out they have a great relationship with our friends at The Top of the South Community Foundation, and this project aligned perfectly with their values of giving back to the local community.

Since 2015, Battle for the Banded Rail’s been creating a better environment for these birds to thrive, nest, and breed. That means not only trapping harmful pests but also restoring and maintaining native habitats. So far the project has trapped 10,900 pests and planted 164,000 plants across the Waimea Inlet – half of which were planted by community volunteers. And let’s not forget about the importance of estuarine environments in this whole equation! Thanks to the hard work of this community project, there’s hope for their survival and for future generations to thrive. In fact, in the Waimea Inlet, Banded Rail numbers are on the upswing!

We’re very grateful for the amazing mahi from the Craigs team. And guess what? You and your team can get involved too! If you’re looking for a meaningful way to give back and connect with your workmates and nature, why not get in touch? We’d love to hear from you.
