The aim of this project is to restore the water quality and habitat of Neimann Creek to facilitate the return of wildlife including giant kokopu, other aquatic, bird and native plant species. This project supports the health of Waimea Estuary.
Neimann Creek feeds into the Waimea Estuary and has significant water quality issues. In the last 20 years a population of the threatened giant kokopu has disappeared, as have brown trout and brown mudfish.
Ensuring this creek supplies healthy freshwater to the Waimea Estuary then Tasman Bay is important for the community – for both kaimoana and recreation. This is a staged project with stage one well underway.
