Pest & Predator Control
The Mapua Dawn Chorus Project is an urban trapping project that aims to establish Mapua Village as a community free from rats and other predator species. We aim to achieve this through active trapping in one in every four backyards.

The project started in May 2017 with funding and support from Predator Free NZ, Kiwibank and the Tasman District Council, providing humane approved rat traps to home owners at a discounted rate as well as technical support, information about trapping, feedback and monitoring of bird life and live pest species.

To date the project has sold 150 traps into Mapua Village and surrounding areas.  The geography of the Mapua township and the efforts of other environmental groups like the Battle for the Banded Rail, Mapua Wetlands/Tanes Ark, and Dominion Flats Restoration complement the efforts to make Mapua pest free.
